The Terminator and the Humvee
Most celebrities buy cars; Arnold Schwarzenegger creates segments. While filming Kindergarten Cop in Oregon, Arnold saw a convoy of military HMMWVs (Humvees) pass by. He was instantly obsessed. He flew to AM General's headquarters and lobbied them to build a street-legal version. They initially refused, saying it was strictly for war. Arnold persisted, and in 1992, he bought the very first civilian Hummer H1. Single-handedly, he launched the era of the massive luxury SUV.
The Green Governator
When he became the Governor of California, Arnold faced criticism for driving gas-guzzling tanks. Instead of selling them, he re-engineered them. He converted one of his Hummers to burn hydrogen (the "H2H") and another to run on biofuel.
This began his second act as a champion of clean energy. He didn't stop at Hummers; he partnered with Austrian firm Kreisel Electric to build the world's first fully electric Mercedes G-Wagon and an electric Hummer H1, proving that you don't have to drive a small car to save the planet.
A Tank in the Backyard
Arnold's love for heavy metal is genuine. He owns the actual M47 Patton tank (number 331) that he drove as an 18-year-old conscript in the Austrian Army. He brought it to the U.S. and uses it to crush cars for charity, cementing his status as the ultimate automotive alpha male.
