The Missing Piece
While Steve Fambro and Chris Anthony created the concept of Aptera in the mid-2000s, it was Michael Johnson who helped bring it back to life in 2019. Johnson joined the duo as a Co-Founder and Co-CEO of the newly formed Aptera Motors Corp, completing the leadership trifecta. His background was exactly what the visionary startup needed: hardcore manufacturing discipline.
Aerospace Precision
Johnson is an engineer by trade with a deep history in the aerospace industry. Before Aptera, he worked on developing rapid manufacturing processes for composite structuresâessentially, figuring out how to build lightweight, strong aircraft parts quickly. This expertise was vital for Aptera, which uses a unique "binic" composite body that shares more DNA with a glider than a standard steel car.
The Flux Power Connection
Johnson's relationship with the team runs deep. He previously served as the CEO of Flux Power, the battery company founded by Chris Anthony. Under his leadership, Flux Power grew significantly in the lithium-ion sector. This proven track record of scaling a technology company gave investors confidence in Aptera's second act.
Building the Factory
In the current Aptera organization, Johnson's primary focus is on operations and supply chain. He is the architect behind the company's production strategy in Carlsbad, California. His goal is to translate the beautiful aerodynamics of Fambro's design into a vehicle that can be assembled efficiently at scale, ensuring that this time, Aptera actually reaches the driveways of its customers.
